Dreams & Schemes at our first Strategic workshop

Our club’s very first Strategic planning workshop was held in March and a great success! Members gathered at the Rise in Maylands for a half-day session on a Saturday arvo. We are super lucky to have a professional facilitator in our club, so our workshop was effective and engaging. We appreciated that everyone was spending half a weekend day in a workshop, so we worked really hard to plan a workshop that would deliver some outcomes and be enjoyable at the same time.

During the workshop, we used our smartphones to cast our votes on issues and ideas and also to come up with words that created word clouds for our club’s “Desired Impact” and “Way of Being”  – these will be used by the Board to come up with our club’s vision statement.

Through voting in a live “passionometer” we came up with our club’s top 3 causes we care about – Indigenous Issues, Refugee Issues and Animal Welfare. This info will help to shape our focus for fundraising and projects.

Members also had the opportunity to nominate themselves for club roles and committees, as well as let us know about any other skills they have (we have someone who speaks Japanese, a couple of HR licenses and someone who can ride a unicycle…who knows when these skills might come in handy?!)

Feedback in a survey after the event revealed that everyone involved found it productive and enjoyable, and look forward to attending the next one in six months’ time!
