New venue & Katie Liew from the Underground Collaborative

Last week we had our first club meeting in our new, larger venue – The Centre For Stories! As it was just before Mothers’ Day, we had a pop-up market with handcrafted goods donated by members (honey, lemon butter, and body scrub) to raise some club funds.

Our guest speaker was Katie Liew who has recently founded The Underground Collaborative  – an initiative aimed at creating positive pathways for the homelessness. Her talk sparked some interesting conversation and ideas from members.

Our head of Strategic Planning, Alison, gave us an exercise to dig down into the data around who actually lives in the areas surrounding our meeting place. If we want our club to be an accurate reflection of our community, we need to know who makes up our community! We found out some pretty interesting facts. This activity was a teaser for our next meeting on the 24th – which will be an open discussion around facilitating diversity within our club. As a community organisation,  how can we integrate with other organisations and groups to make sure our group is as diverse and as accessible as possible? If this sounds like a conversation you’d be interested in joining, or even just listening to, you better register for our next meeting!
