Last night the innovative and inspiring Darren Lomman came to speak to the club. Darren is a previous Young Australian of the Year and 40 Under 40 winner and has now founded GreenBatch – a social enterprise focussed on leveraging the community to build WA’s first plastic processing plant.
Right now only 3% of the world’s plastic is recycled, which means billions of plastic bottles end up in our waterways. Not only that, but the plastic we DO recycle is not disposed of responsibly – It’s shipped overseas and incinerated to generate “cheap energy”, causing serious health and environmental concerns.
GreenBatch want to build a processing plant right here in WA and turn those plastic bottles into much cooler stuff, like 3D printer filament. Doesn’t that sound like a better idea to you?
Our club members are big fans of marine wildlife and want to get behind this project to make a difference in our world… before it’s too late! If this sounds like a project you’d be keen to be involved in, come along to a meeting and see what our club is all about.
